Negombo Diaries No 9

After a return trip to UK for six months I flew back into Sri Lanka and was greeted by blue skies and hot sun, very welcome after the bitter cold weather in England.

Jetwing Blue and Beach Hotels again held their party on Negombo beach, hundreds of guests enjoyed a huge buffet dinner.  The live band ensured that the dance floor was in use all evening.  Gradually the beach, outside the roped off area, filled up with local people come to enjoy the music and watch the grand firework displays at midnight.  A good night was had by all.

New Year’s Eve

The sea has been very calm but with Poya Day upon us the weather has changed slightly, the breeze is stronger and rain threatens.

More tourists arriving and trade is picking up again after the difficulties in 2022.  Some businesses have opened, then closed and new ones are replacing them.  The fuel situation seems to be stable now.  Transport, fuel and food prices have doubled making life harder for the locals, but it is still very cheap compared to Europe.

Parking seems to be a bit of a challenge still with some drivers not getting the hang of it at all!

Good to see your “Journal” back!
Great parking – not much better here – especially reversing.
